Marriage Equality Gear Submenu

Marriage Equality Gear

I truly believe that the equal right to marriage is probably the last frontier of civil rights here in the United States.  I cannot understand why a gay marriage has any effect on heterosexual marriages, especially since we heterosexuals are doing a fine job of destroying the institution of marriage all on our own.  What’s the statistic now?  That 52% of all marriages end in divorce?

As my husband jokes, “Gay people have every right to be as miserable as we are.”  ¡Sin vergüenza!

These two designs are related. I feel that there has been a long history of heartbreak for same-sex couples that just want to stay together, and I’m saying “NO MORE BROKEN HEARTS”!

These designs are available as tees, and as buttons and mugs.  The added bonus of purchasing this design is that all profits go to the Courage Campaign, one of the progressive organizations working hard to overturn Proposition 8 in California.  When that work is completed, the profits will be donated to state-level initiatives to build coalitions within grass-roots constituencies to build support for marriage equality, á la Obama campaign.  The particular focus at that point will be here in Colorado, where we have Focus on the Family to deal with!

The same goes for the bumper sticker design below.  Click here to purchase the design below.  The slogan I’ve used here calls to mind those certain inalienable rights that all Americans are to receive, per our Declaration of Independence.  Who are we to pigeonhole anyone and abridge anyone’s rights?  Does being gay mean you’re a second-class citizen?

This design has a deeper meaning for me.  Recall the Nazi concentration camps and the triangles of different colors that each group were forced to wear: two yellow triangles forming a Star of David for Jews, political prisoners with red triangles, and homosexuals had pink triangles.  While I don’t believe our society is run by Nazis, I do find similarity in the way we have shoved homosexuals into a category so that they’re easier to discriminate against.

As I mentioned above, the use of the quote from the Declaration of Independence is an attempt to call to mind our basic rights as first declared in that document that shook the world.

Proceeds from the sale of these articles also go to support Courage Campaign in California, as well as state-level initiatives later on in the fight for marriage equality.  Feel good about wearing these designs and know that you’re making a difference to dissolve the separate-but-equal state gay couples are in.

This pink triangle design is available in a wide variety of tees, sweatshirts and hoodies.  Click here to go to the “pink triangle” store.
